About Us

Selena A. Burks earned her B.F.A from Wright State University in 2003. With a fellowship grant from the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University, Selena completed Saving Jackie in June 2004. Since then, she has presented Saving Jackie to a variety of drug out reach programs, state and county child service organizations as well as high schools and universities. Saving Jackie premiered at the 2005 Sundance International Film Festival and has been shown at other film festivals nationwide. In March 2006, Selena was one of 22 artist awarded the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Media Arts Fellowship for her next feature film Fuse. This project melds fiction and documentary to tell the story of a young woman’s erratic teenage years as a runaway, based on the life of the filmmaker’s foster sister. Selena currently lives in Cincinnati , OH and divides her time working on the development phase of Fuse and presenting Saving Jackie to various organizations nationwide.

Professional Profile

I directed the documentary short “Saving Jackie”, an unflinching saga of my family weathering the turmoil of my mother's spiral out of crack-cocaine dependence. The film is used as training material for child welfare professionals, foster parents, at-risk children and recovering drug addicts. Highlights of some of my speaking events are as followed:
